Deluxe Cheeseburger, Bald Eagle Diner

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Tasting Notes

What I liked

There were really good flavours in the burger. The meat looks like it’s ground especially for the burger, and cooked perfectly – that pinky middle.

What I wasn’t keen on

Tallness! This isn’t one I could just pick up and bite. Also, I’m a saucy one. I would like more sauces please!

Would I order it again?

I would order it in future, but next time I visit I’d try out another type of burger.

Smoke and Fire, Wise Boys Burgers

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Tasting Notes

What I liked

Peanut butter satay (Fix and Fogg base) and lots of it. Crispy deep fried tofu strips. Crisp fresh veg.

What I wasn’t keen on

Messiness. That’s a very minor thing when it comes to burgers.

What I didn’t notice

This is a meatfree burger. I did not miss the meat – it was well balanced in terms of flavour and texture.

Would I order it again?

Hell yes.

I’ve been wanting to try a Wise Boys burger for ages, and I was stoked to find out they were as good as I’d hoped! My dining companion ordered the Moroccan and only had praise. These burgers are legit and if you find them in your ‘hood, give them a visit.

Mushroom, Better Burger

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Tasting Notes

What I liked

The meaty mushroom coated in a herby breadcrumbs. I really liked how the mushroom was the perfect size for the bun. It was more than just a mushroom in a bun – nicely seasoned and nice flavours. I didn’t feel like I was missing a beef patty. ALSO: Better Burger’s price! At $6.50 this is not too bad.

What I wasn’t keen on

I’m not a raw onion fan, so that is the one thing I did not like so much about this burger. I would also recommend skipping the sides.

Would I order it again?

Yes, minus the onions, or perhaps if I could get it with grilled onions!

What I liked

  • Two beefy patties, nicely smashed with melted cheese.
  • Dripping and flavourful.
  • Mildly spicy.

What I didn’t notice

  • The flavour of the bacon. I also found it hard to bite through as it was a leaner cut.

What I wasn’t too keen on

  • Mustard and tomato sauce overpowered the meat a bit.

Would I eat it again?

Yes, but maybe ask them to go a bit easier on those sauces.

My go-to burger is a beef patty, cooked crisp on the outside and pink in the middle, maybe a slice of cheese, and definitely mayo, lettuce, tomato, and grilled onions in a soft bun. Pickles are pretty good too.

I enjoy both making burgers from scratch, and having someone make a burger for me.

I spend the rest of my time having a full time job, a spouse, a cat, and quite a few other hobbies besides cooking and eating.

Kimcheese, Tiger Burger

Starting with a rather controversial announcement:

The Kimcheese is my favourite burger in Auckland.

I went back to get my favourite burger, and tried out the Tiger Roar add on – a healthy slathering of spicy sauce to make it “Korean hot”.

What I liked:

  • The beef has a fantastic flavour, it’s strong and beefy, and the patty is cooked medium rare, so the texture is great.
  • The kimchi adds a nice crunch to the burger.
  • I am sure they toast and butter their buns, and it makes a big difference.

What I didn’t notice:

  • The cheese… There’s a lot of flavour in the burger especially with the Tiger Roar.

What I didn’t like

  • Nothing!

Notable sides

  • K Fries: With Kimcheese sauce, creme sauce, house kimchi
  • Seoulful Bites: Free range boneless Korean fried chicken, yang nyum sauce, honey garlic mayo
K Fries, for people who love sauce (that’s me!)
